Saving money despite Barry and his Socialism

Postby griv » Wed Feb 18, 2009 6:52 pm

I thought this would be a good topic to start because with the socialism Barry brings, so will our costs rise as inflation sets in and the availability of some items becomes a challenge. I am fond of saying that shopping online is like getting a pay raise and while some laugh, after 5 minutes that are true believers.

eBay is one of the greatest shopping environments but at the same time there are many pitfalls that the novice need overcome to ensure that they actually get what they paid for. Direct websites also offer discounts that you might not receive via a catalog or even store visit. One thing to remember, before you press the “submit order” button, do a Google search on “store X promo discount codes” to make sure that there isn’t a free shipping or X% off coupon you can apply.

Any one else?

I think I am single-handledly contributing to Amazon's continued growth. I buy just about everything from them! $25 and it ships free with no sales tax.

I am also guilty of funding amazon's rise to financial superiority. They give you free magazine subscriptions when you order a lot of stuff. Who else takes care of their customers like that? Plus free shipping and endless selection!

I also like Amazon and when comparative price shopping on the Internet, I often find Amazon somehow has the best price. I once bought a $1,500 grill for $450 but I ended up having to wait 10 months to get it so I’m not sure whether it was a good deal or not.
