New camping blade...

I purchased a stock Ontario RAT-5 with a D2 tool steel blade, but did not like the flat board finish of the scales (handle). With a little grinding and filing, I finished with a very nice form and fit knife. I added the new leatherman skeletool CX, sporting a 154-CM blade, in the small pocket to take care of the small stuff, which makes a great companion. D2 tool steel is typically used for bulldozer blades and has a high toughness and resists wear, while holding an edge. (see link above for pics).

Whats your favorite camping blade?

CRKT® Ultima™ Tactical Fixed Blade Knife – Black 2125KV
The Ultima black blade version is 4.95”, full-tang of 1.4116 stainless steel and features a black titanium nitride blade coating along with the Combination Razor-Sharp and Veff™ Serrated edge. Knife designer Tom Veff, created these serrations wide and angled at 60 degrees to the edge. The resulting cutting points bite instantly and dig deep upon contact, slicing smoothly and effortlessly. The injection-molded black Zytel® scales feature over 70 triangular grip segments, separated by “ooze grooves” which channel away water, mud and oil. Horizontal grooves are placed under the fingertips for optimum feel. Because tactical knives are inevitably used as pry bars, a butt pry tip was created as an extension of the blade tang, with a rounded tip.

Tactical sheath included. Custom black Cordura®/Zytel® sheath has an injection-molded liner. Dual belt loops are Velcro® adjustable. For maximum versatility, there are ample grommets with a length of 550 paracord included, an adjustable leg strap, plus a slotted sheath back that can mount on MOLLE gear. Removable security handle straps with snaps give access and security. A utility pocket with a Fastex™ buckle will carry a variety of folding knives, multipurpose tools or sharpeners.

Features:
· Black titanium nitride blade coating.
· Dramatically improved cutting ability on rope, webbing, strapping, hoses and leather.

Here is a 'govt. issue' favorite of mine. Every member of the team I was on back during the 1st Gulf War received one of these Camillus Knives for some reason which I still can't figure out, LOL...
